People Review and Talent Management Software: Stop Improvising in Committee

Talent decisions based on data, not impressions.

Too many People Reviews run into the same problem: scattered data, managers with no visibility, and HR making decisions in the dark.

Zest structures the People Review around your own assessment criteria, consolidated into a single view before the committee meets. So the meeting is spent making decisions, not piecing together context.

Without consolidated data, the talent committee decides on intuition, not information.

Most organisations run their talent review once a year. The problem isn’t a lack of willingness. It’s what happens once the committee meets: opinions, not data.

Managers arrive with subjective assessments. HR manually consolidates inconsistent evaluations. The committee spends more time reconstructing each employee’s context than actually making decisions.

Bias creeps in. High potential talent goes unnoticed. Flight risks aren’t identified in time.

Zest centralises assessments, objectives, and potential criteria into a single view, configured to match your framework. People Review time is cut by a factor of three. The committee can finally focus on what matters: deciding.

What Zest actually does

Easily gather feedback from managers and employees

Prepare the committee with consolidated data
Before the committee meets, each manager assesses their employees against criteria defined by HR: performance, potential, aspirations. These assessments are entered directly into Zest, with no need for intermediate spreadsheets.

Data from annual reviews and objectives is automatically aggregated into each employee’s profile. HR has a consolidated view of the whole organisation before the committee even begins.

Run the committee with the 9 box matrix

The 9 box matrix positions each employee along two axes: performance and potential. The criteria for each axis can be customised to match your internal framework and current priorities. It’s generated automatically from the assessments entered, with no manual formatting required.

During the session, participants see the mapping in real time. They can move employees, comment on positioning, and calibrate across teams. All decisions are logged and available to review after the committee meeting.

Identify talent, risks, and succession needs

The potential mapping gives an immediate view of how talent is distributed across the organisation: high potentials to retain, profiles to develop, and critical positions with no identified successor.

Zest is an integrated platform: engagement signals collected through the survey and 360° feedback are available in the same environment as performance data. A high potential employee whose engagement is dropping won’t slip through the cracks, provided HR cross references both sources before the committee meets.

Track decisions over time

A People Review with no follow up on decisions is a meeting with no future. Development plans, moves, and promotions decided in committee are documented in Zest and available to review at any time.

HR can track progress on actions taken for each employee and prepare for the next People Review with the full history of past decisions on hand.

What sets Zest apart from a generic talent management tool

A process built around your framework, not the other way round

The criteria for the 9 box matrix can be customised to match your framework. The matrix is then generated automatically from the assessments.

Decisions are made during the session and logged in real time. No more formatting after the fact, no more minutes to piece together.

Q&A

Frequently asked questions about Zest’s People Review software

What is a People Review and what is it actually used for?

A People Review is a collective review process covering employees, bringing together HR, managers, and leadership to make decisions on promotions, moves, succession planning, and development plans. Unlike the annual review, which remains a two way conversation, it brings together multiple perspectives on each talent to produce objective, traceable decisions.

How does the 9 box matrix help the committee?

The 9 box matrix positions each employee according to their performance and potential. The criteria for each axis can be customised to reflect your internal framework. Zest generates it automatically from the assessments entered, with no manual formatting required. During the session, participants calibrate positioning in real time, with every decision logged automatically.

How does Zest’s software prepare the talent committee?

Before the committee meets, managers enter their assessments directly into the platform. Data from reviews is automatically fed into each employee’s profile. HR has a consolidated view with no manual re entry or formatting required.

How are decisions made in committee tracked?

Development plans, moves, and promotions are documented in Zest once the committee meeting ends and can be reviewed by HR at any time. The history of past decisions is available to help prepare for the next People Review.

Does Zest integrate with our existing HRIS?

Zest has native connectors with the leading HRIS platforms on the market (ADP, Talentsoft, SAP SuccessFactors, and others). Employee data is synchronised automatically, with no manual re entry and no involvement needed from IT.
